9:30am-3:30pm Discovery Workshop: Introduction to Acrylics w/Betty Jean Kennedy

9:30am - 3:30pm Workshop:  Introduction to Acrylics

Is this Workshop for you?
If you have NEVER painted with acrylics, if you have NO IDEA what supplies you should purchase to get started painting with acrylics, but you think you might like to try acrylic painting, this Workshop is for you.  It will NOT be of interest or helpful for those who have already painted with Acrylic paints.

What will the Workshop be like?
The morning, 9:30am-11:30am, will be informational.  There will be many handouts on paint, brushes, supports (canvases, panels, etc), palettes, opportunity to ask questions, and Instructor will share her own experience with Acrylic.

There will be a lunch break from about 11:30am-12:00pm.  Bring your own lunch, run home, or pick up something from the Tiny Tavern near the parking lot.

The afternoon, 12:00pm-3:30pm, will be spend actually painting with acrylic on a prepared canvas.  This will allow attendees to experience what it is like painting with acrylic ... what it feels like, how to care for the brushes, what to expect when applying the acrylic to canvas, etc.

What do I need to bring to the Workshop?
Supplies will be provided.  You should wear an old shirt or have an apron or smock to protect your clothing.  You may wish to bring a notebook, but there will be a number of handouts for you to take home and look over at your leisure.  All other supplies will be provided.

Will there be individual instructions when we paint?
Instructor will demonstrate and work with attendees individually as needed and as time allows. Primarily, Instructor will share her experience and the way she works with and handles painting with acrylics.

Instructor note:
"My way is not necessarily the "right" way and certainly not the "only way!  It works for me but other instructors may, and probably will have, other approaches.  My goal is to help each beginner to experience painting with acrylic in a very comfortable, non-threatening, even fun environment.

I encourage everyone to take more in-depth lessons of painting online and with instructors whose classes will focus on color theory, composition, center of interest, value, texture, etc.  This Workshop is designed to break the ice and get people started.  Its purpose is also to help attendees determine if acrylic painting is something they want to pursue and, if so, what they should purchase when they go to the art supply store."
